On May 9, 1917, Erika Johanne Hansen arrived at Ellis Island, a passenger on the SS Kristianiafjord. She was 18 years old. She traveled alone during wartime. This book traces Erika’s life in Oslo, Norway and her years in Ohio, U.S.A. She married a U.S. Army veteran of the First World War, a naturalized American citizen who had been severely wounded on Armistice Day. They had two sons before his untimely death in 1934. Always a Sister of Norway, she cherished her American family, friends and institutions. Erika was regarded by family members as “the most loved by all.”
