In 1977, Sandra S. Navarro completed a PhD from the toughest graduate school of anthropology in the USA. Key to this achievement was the kindness of Tucson, Arizona’s St. Demetrios Greek American community. Sandra’s personal narrative recounts the experience of a young, single, female graduate student at the University of Arizona during the unsettled 1970s.
